In order to remain on the forefront of innovation, we need skilled and determined people that deliver results. We’re seeking a Senior Mechanical Designer who is focused on world class technology.

Core Responsibilities

* Design and develop innovative and functional engineered automation solutions from concept through final design and detail that meet or exceed customer requirements
* Estimate design hours for tool concepts, design and release of original content, and changes
* Construct and modify CAD models per customer standards using one or more of the following applications: NX, CATIA, FiDES, Inventor, AutoCAD
* Prepare layout and detail drawings of designs within defined project timelines
* Review and study customer specifications, engineering schematics and other data to ensure released designs meet engineering and manufacturing requirements
* Perform engineering calculations and material selection to meet safety standards and design functionality requirements
* Coordinate structural and/or finite element analysis to validate design functionality
* Coordinate model and drawing development, managing teams of internal and external designers and comprehensively manage the complete design of tools assigned
* Work closely with the design team to ensure optimal manufacturability, maintainability and serviceability of the equipment
* Meet and review design details with customers at defined quality gates
* Work effectively within the project timeline, with constant awareness to produce designs within project budget constraints
* Verify the completeness and accuracy of the design and associated CAD models / drawings prior to final release to procurement, fabrication and assembly leveraging significant prior experience in checking detail drawings for the manufacturing
* Understand the design release system process and release all models, drawings, instructions and other data in formats required by internal and external customers
* Initiate ideas and coordinate efforts for continuous product and process improvement using FMEA, 8D and FEA knowledge

Other Responsibilities

* Perform other duties as required and as directed by Leadership
* Has the authority and obligation to stop production in case unsafe working condition are observed
* Has the obligation to notify his or her supervisor and/or a member of the Joint Health and Safety Committee of any safety related matter requiring immediate attention

Qualifications and Skills

* Bachelor of Applied Science or Mechanical Engineering degree, or equivalent from a recognized University is preferred
* Associate Degree or Engineering Diploma, with specialization in design/drafting from a recognized Community College, or equivalent experience (assessed by hiring manager)
* Specialized training with certifications (if applicable) from a recognized training organization in the application of any CAD software listed above
* Minimum 10 years’ experience and demonstrated capabilities in concept design, 3D design and 2D detailing using any CAD software listed above to design automated production systems and tooling
* Experience in one or more of the following industries is required: automotive, aerospace, heavy equipment
* Experience in any of the following areas of automotive manufacturing is highly preferred: body-in-white welding and assembly, closure hanging, powertrain manufacturing systems, industrial parts washers, leak test systems, final assembly, or material handling
* Leadership abilities in coordinating design-related tasks among peers, junior designers and external design teams while instilling accountability to deliver designs on-time, on-budget, at a high-quality
* General knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) concepts and its application in automated production systems designed for the automotive, aerospace and heavy industry sectors
* Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment, including following up on equipment throughout the entire project lifecycle (fabrication, assembly, installation and commissioning)
* Ability and willingness to travel to any company and customer facilities globally
* Must be willing to work extended hours when necessary, including overtime, weekends, holidays and night shifts as project and customer demands dictate
* Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work well in a team environment with internal and external personnel
* Eligibility for clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods and American ITAR requirements
