Mechanical Engineer
Role Profile:
Job Location: Michigan
Reports to: Head of Engineering
Reason for role: Newly created role for internal and company growth
Summary:
Plan, schedule, control and coordinate engineering tasks according to requirements of work order file, contract specifications, applicable codes and regulations and standard engineering practice on schedule and within budgetary guidelines.
Prepare engineering calculations, conduct design drawing reviews, generate flow diagrams and sequences of operations; prepare technical specifications and technical scope of work for subcontract engineering, design, fabrication, and installation; participate in bid evaluation and technical clarification meetings.
Responsibilities:
1 Paint finishing experience acting as a lead engineer and including strong ability in at least 1 of the following major process areas:
1 spray booth engineering – specific calculation requirement.
* Fresh air house equipment calculations and sizing. Be able to size preheat burners, humidifiers, chilled water and reheat coils based on AHSRAE conditions and deliver specific delivery temperature and humidity setpoints.
* Recirculating air house calculations and sizing. Be able to size chilled water coils (sensible and dehumidification), reheat coils, strict filtration requirements and deliver specific delivery temperature and humidity setpoints.
* Calculate utility load requirements (natural gas, chilled water, hot water, compressed air, central humidification, etc.) Proficient in specification of supporting burners, pipe trains, spray humidification and evaporative cooling.
* Experience with good spray booth engineering practices. Wet scrubber applications, dry scrubber applications, recirculating and fresh air systems, current industry booth air supply recirculation rates, booth design and fabrication drawings, etc.
* LEL calculations for recirculating spray booths
* Spray booth airflow schematic engineering – balance booth conditions, fresh air/ recirc air considerations, silhouette conditions, etc.
* Sludge tank engineering. Calculate retention times, experience with sludge consolidation units.
* Piping system engineered balanced systems including pumped booth water supply and gravity return systems. Must be able to perform system calculations. Pipe flow piping system modeling, piping system losses, system head calculations, pump selection, proficient with piping system engineering / design, liquid flow schematic development, PID development for system operation and control.
* Duct engineering including static loss calculations, fan laws, fan sizing, experience in fan variations and selections, experience in selecting common system equipment (dampers, flex connections, mist eliminators, filters, etc.)
* Process fire protection and deluge system knowledge
* Develop detailed mechanical sequence of operations for mechanical system.
* Generate technical equipment RFQ for procurement
* Generate technical subcontractor SOW’s for procurement

* oven engineering
* Experienced in oven calculations including heat up loads and cooling loads. Must be able to determine required heater supply volumes, zone turnover rates, fresh air and exhaust, purge calculations, radiant and convection zone engineering.
* Calculate utility load requirements (natural gas, chilled water, etc) Proficient in specification of supporting burners, pipe trains, coils.
* Experienced with oven design including zone configurations for best part heat up.
* Oven airflow schematic engineering – SCFM vs. ACFM, balance oven conditions, fresh air/ recirc air considerations, exhaust consideration, silhouette conditions, etc.
* Oven expansion calcs
* Calculate heater box burner requirements, heat exchanger calculations
* Purge time calcs
* Determine and size supporting duct systems. Duct engineering including static loss calculations, fan laws, fan sizing, experience in fan variations and selections, experience in selecting common system equipment (dampers, flex connections, filters, etc)
* Abatement system integration
* Experienced with NFPA 86 oven explosion relief requirements and able to support oven design with explosion relief calculations
* Generate technical equipment RFQ for procurement
* Generate technical subcontractor SOW’s for procurement
1 abatement system engineering
* Experienced in abatement system engineering including concentrator systems engineering, VOC load calculations, filter house engineering and RTO system engineering.
* Abatement system airflow schematic engineering
* PID development for system operation and control.
* Able to calculate adsorb and desorb air streams, desorb heater
* Develop detailed mechanical sequence of operations for mechanical system.
* Generate technical equipment RFQ for procurement
* Generate technical subcontractor SOW’s for procurement
1 phos/ecoat engineering
* tank size calculations considering part requirements and turnover rates.
* Piping system and supporting equipment calculations. Pipe flow piping system modeling, piping system losses, system head calculations, pump selection, proficient with piping system engineering / design, piping schematic development, PID development for system operation and control. Proficient with sizing of supporting equipment including bag filter systems, plate and frame heat exchangers, hydro cyclones, pumping systems, UF systems, RO systems, anolyte system
* Generate technical equipment RFQ for procurement
* Generate technical subcontractor SOW’s for procurement
1 Strong piping systems engineering experience
2 Strong HVAC system engineering experience
3 Ability to act as a lead engineer for a large industrial project
4 Excellent communication skills
5 Ability to train / mentor young engineers and/or host specific departmental training modules

* Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
* 3 – 5 years Engineering experience required
* Proficient in Microsoft Word, and Excel
* Effective verbal and written communication skills
Salary & Benefits
* Base Salary – $120K – $145K (based on experience and market research)
* Overtime eligible as well 5 over 50 hours in work week
* Discretionary Bonus paid out yearly – 10 – 30% annual salary
* Vacation – TBD
